Learn to Dance in St. Louis for Free or Almost Free
Yearning to shake your groove thing, but don’t know where to start? St. Louis is bursting with opportunities to dance!
With its vibrant music scene, St. Louis is a great place to dance. But what if you’re not a confident dancer? Luckily, a number of St. Louis clubs and organizations offer free or nearly free dance lessons.
Club Viva, located at 408 N Euclid Ave, specializes in Latin music and dancing, and offers free lessons on Thursdays and Saturdays at 8:15 p.m.. Complimentary Salsa lessons and an intro to Bachata, the popular social dance from the Dominican Republic, are included with cover charge. Thursdays is only $5 and ladies are free until 10:00 p.m.. The cover charge on Saturdays is $6. Doors open at 8:00 p.m., so be warmed up and ready to dance when you arrive, or bring your friends for group Salsa classes for as low at $15.
Club Viva offers more than just Latin music and dancing. The club showcases international entertainment with nights dedicated to reggae, Bollywood and more.

If you’re looking for line dancing, Wild Country is a country-themed venue located in Collinsville, IL, with live music, dancing and “an all-around good time.” While the focus is Country & Western music, the club offers a variety of popular genres, describing itself as “60 percent country and about 40 percent of everything from Elvis to the latest techno and dance tunes and every kind of music in between.”
Wild Country’s 25,000 square-feet includes five bars, a 3,000 square-foot hard wood dance floor, and “high tech lighting and fantastic sound systems, both for the DJ’s and for live bands which play every Friday and Saturday nights.”
Founded in 1996, Wild Country also hosts the longest running country dance show on television (almost 1,000 weekly episodes have aired), which can be seen every Sunday night at 10:00 p.m. on ABC, channel 30 and is taped on Wednesday nights.
