Fun seeks new heights at the annual Great Forest Park Balloon Race on September 16. Watch the Balloon Glow the night before the main event!
This time of year in St. Louis, you’re bound to see some hot air balloons floating around in the dusk sky. One of the biggest celebrations of hot air balloons takes place in St. Louis with the Great Forest Park Balloon Race. On September 16, head down to Forest Park to watch over 65 balloons take off for the 45th year in St. Louis.
Popular balloons will return to the race, like the giant Energizer bunny, the colorful patchwork from the Daniel and Henry Company balloon, and the giant goldfish with sunglasses on the PNC Bank balloon.
Other activities will also be available while the pilots get their balloons ready. There will be inflatables, vendor tables, food vendors, and the Purina activities area with dog shows. Not to mention sky divers making their way in before the balloons.
Can’t make it out on Saturday? Check out the Balloon Glow on Friday night before the event. This year, for the first time, the Balloon Glow will be held at Art Hill. The Balloon Glow features balloons from the race, illuminated in the dark to show their colors. Once the balloons are done for the night, fireworks will finish off the event.
Both events are free and open to the public. For more information on the event and parking instructions, check out their website. The balloon glow begins at 7 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m. Festivities begin at noon on the day of the race and the balloons will launch after an opening ceremony at 3:30 p.m.
