Three unique St. Louis restaurants have found ways to incorporate eggnog into a variety of delectable desserts.

Eggnog is a staple of the holidays. But did you know that three restaurants in St. Louis have incorporated the classic drink into desserts?

Whisk: A Sustainable Bakeshop — Eggnog Cupcakes

Whisk opened in November of 2012 with the goal of it being a sustainable bake shop. To owner Kaylen Wissinger, being green essentially means using methods that keep the store’s carbon footprint as small as possible. All food waste is composted, in-season ingredients are used, to-go packaging is made from at least 90 percent recycled content and is recyclable and compostable, and everything that can be bought locally is, from ingredients to business cards.

Cake and cupcake flavors change with the seasons; the holiday offerings are eggnog, gingerbread and chocolate peppermint. The eggnog cupcakes are perfectly moist and the icing is simply delectable. Another favorite is their eggnog thumbprint cookies, which are delectable fluffy sugar cookies with a dollop of eggnog-flavored topping on their centers.

Be sure to call ahead if you’re planning an outing because the menu changes daily.

Whisk is located at 2201 Cherokee St., St. Louis, MO 63118.

La Patisserie Chouquette — Eggnog Macarons and Cheesecakes

Owner Simone Faure describes La Patisserie Chouquette as a “sweet, chic and unique boutique specializing in French pastry, couture wedding cakes and wow-your-date desserts.”

The bakery offers macarons and cheesecakes in eggnog flavor. The crisp portion is made of a batter containing sprinkles of nutmeg and the filling is a buttercream with rum extract mixed in for just a hint of that signature eggnog bite. The macaron flavors rotate daily and are subject to availability, so it may be best to call ahead, while the cheesecake can be ordered on their website or through email.

La Patisserie Chouquette is located at 1626 Tower Grove Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110.

Kakao Chocolate — Eggnog Chocolates

Owner Brian Pelletier opened Kakao Chocolate in 2008 and it has since grown to three stores. Though the business has expanded, his commitment to using only all-natural ingredients has never wavered. All confections are made and hand-dipped in the St. Louis shops, but can be ordered online if you can’t make it to a shop in person.

Truffles come in a huge variety of flavors, with eggnog included, and can be purchased in-shop or online in boxes of six, 16, and 25. Brian Pelletier described the process of selecting the perfect recipe on his blog. He describes the ganache filling as being made with all-natural milk chocolate, milk, sugar, nutmeg, and a perfect blend of bourbon and rum to create a signature chocolate eggnog flavor.

Boxes of truffles can be customized through email at
