Are you eating too much protein throughout your day? We’ve got some great tips to help you know when you’ve reached the healthy limit!

We often associate a healthy lifestyle, or increase of weight loss, with upping our amount of protein each day. We do this without even thinking, but mostly because that is what we have been told do over the years. But when is protein too much for our bodies to handle? How much can our bodies take per day? These are questions that we should be asking ourselves when taking a look at our daily food intake.

Last month, a woman in her mid 30’s passed away from consuming too much protein. The build up of the protein in her blood caused her to have a coma. So what is too much? If you are a woman that is 140-150 pounds, your daily intake should average 55 grams. Exceeding that amount should only be minimal and should be down with caution.

Experts are saying both men and women are intaking more than we need, and this in turn is increasing heart disease and cancer. If you are someone who eats a predominantly high protein diet with meat and artificial protein, you should be seeking medical care to make sure your cholesterol, blood pressure and heart rate are all normal.

It is suggested that people should be consuming more plant based items like beans, whole grains, vegetables and nuts. They are all great sources of protein that should be added to your daily routine, plus they’re delicious! So really, it’s a win-win. It’s also important to teach children healthy eating habits early and for them to know when too much is enough, so those bad habits can end at the source rather than after the fact.
